Although perhaps better known for irreverent satirical websites like the infamous WWW.BedlamAsylum.Com , many members of The Bedlam Web Group have a strong interest in historical and social subjects. Our Titanic Archive aims to provide accurate information about the lost White Star Liner, to chronicle its fatal voyage and to present the stories of those who created the gigantic vessel and sailed on her. This site will never be as huge or comprehensive as some of the professionally-produced resources found on the Internet, but it does have something unique to offer. Having visited many websites dedicated to RMS Titanic and pored through even more books, we saw lots of dark, blurred, faded and deteriorated images. We all felt that we could use our skills in graphic design, photography and forensic reconstruction to restore these vital (but semi-lost) pictures.

The I.R.A. attacked the Harland & Wolff Shipyard in Belfast several times. Although the terrorists failed to do any significant harm to workshops or vessels, one bomb damaged a warehouse where the original glass negatives of the company's photographic collection were stored. Sadly, more than a few of these priceless artefacts were cracked. This act of historical vandalism greatly complicated our efforts to enhance the Titanic-related photographs available to us. Our ongoing aim is to use the latest electronic and digital tools to return such images to the kind of condition they might have been in when they were new and fresh. Unlike others who strive to achieve subtle artistic effects, we want our visitors to be able to see details which were perhaps previously hidden by the ravages of time and poor reproduction of the primary source images.

We don't pretend that we've totally succeeded in all cases; nor do we deny that there is room for improvement. As our technology improves and advances, the images on this site will be updated too. You, the visitor, can play a part in helping us to continually make better and clearer pictures available.           

Many of you will be aware that The Bedlam Web Group manages hundreds of webrings, top site lists, search engines and special interest databases - all free facilities which add to your enjoyment of the Internet and help you to increase your knowledge. BWG Members also devote a lot of their remaining time to producing graphics, texts and sometimes even complete sites for other people who deserve our support. We do our best to offer the finest and most up to date free resources - but the necessary tools, hardware and software don't grow on trees. The BWG relies upon the support of other Net users like you.
